We were looking for a way to prolong storage of rice, peas, beans, wheat, etc after a few days in the freeze to insure little beasties do not appear later in long term stored items, we filled qt and gal Mason/Kerr jars, used a vacuum hand pump with these

We bought the attachment for mason jars and use them for everything We use the Classico Sauces and they come in mason jars or "atlas"jars and you can buy the canning lids at the super market and store just about anything you can think of in them, leftover
