Why the Dust Genie Is the Most Effective Duster Ever?
The key to the Dust Genie’s unique capabilities lies in the interaction of the “virtual nozzle” created by the rotating brush with the powerful vortex generated by the TurbnX™. The rapid rotation of the TurbnX™ causes the air drawn through it to rotate as well, generating a vortex that enhances the vacuum cleaner's suction. Because the brush also rotates at a high rate of speed, its bristles form a “virtual nozzle” that concentrates the field of suction, increasing its effectiveness. The net result: the stubbornly-clinging dust, lint, pollen, etc., that defeats other dusters is dislodged by the Dust Genie’s rotating brush, collected by the “virtual nozzle”, drawn into and through the TurbnX™ by vortex-enhanced suction, and deposited into the vacuum cleaner’s bag or dust cup.

General Use
The Dust Genie works best when held (i) at an angle to the surface to be cleaned, and (ii) with no more than half of the bristles in contact with the surface. Then the inside edge of the rotating bristles can be used to sweep dust toward the center, where suction is greatest. In a confined area, where the dust can't easily escape, it doesn't make as much difference. If a surface is extremely delicate, and you want to make sure you don't damage it, you can slow the rotation of the bristles by using your forefinger as a brake against the outer surface of the brush.

Do I need a special vacuum?
The Dust Genie will work with most vacuums, though you may need a special adapter for some makes and models. The Dust Genie has been tested on everything from handheld vacuums, to a broad range of household vacuums, to central vacuum systems, to large shop and commercial vacuums. It works well on all but the most feeble, though on less powerful vacuums it is important that the bag or dust cup isn't too full and any supplemental filters are not clogged. Because the speed and power of the rotation of the brush will vary, depending upon the strength of the suction the vacuum produces, some vacuums will be better suited than others for certain tasks. For example, a weak household vacuum will not perform nearly as well as a powerful shop vacuum if you're trying to remove cobwebs or drywall dust. On the other hand, it might be easier to clean silk plants or a crystal chandelier with the less powerfull vacuum.

Will the Dust Genie fit my vacuum?
The Dust Genie accommodates the two most common connectors for residential and commercial vacuum cleaner attachments found in the U.S. It is shipped with an adapter in place that accepts the 1.25" diameter hose end, handpiece or extension tube that is common on household vacuum cleaners. If the adapter is removed, the 1.5" diameter connector found on many commercial vacuums will fit instead. 3rd party adapters are available to convert most brands and models of vacuums, including ShopVacs, to one of these two sizes. If you have trouble finding an adapter for your particular brand and model, please let us know and we will try to help you find one.

How do I attach the Dust Genie to my vacuum?
The Dust Genie is designed to be slipped over the end of a vacuum cleaner hose, handpiece, or extension tube. Twisting the Dust Genie slightly as you press it into place will help ensure an airtight seal, which is important for good performance. Too much pressure, however, will make it very difficult to remove the Dust Genie later.

Why does the Dust Genie come with two different brushes?
The large brush cleans a wider area with each pass and has a broader field of suction, which can be an advantage in open areas. The small brush fits more easily into corners and tight spaces, while the reducing nozzle it mounts on provides a bit of added reach. In many cases it boils down to a matter of personal preference, so you should experiment with both brushes and check out the Tips & Tricks page.

How do I clean my Dust Genie?
The Dust Genie should not be immersed in water. The bearings are sealed, but they can rust. The brushes can be cleaned with a mild soap and water, but they must be removed from the Dust Genie first. The bristles are made from hog's hair, so try to avoid harsh detergents that will remove the natural oils that help remove dust.

Corners & Tight Spaces
With a little practice, you can cause the bristles on the small brush to roll into a point that will more easily get into corners and tight spaces. You can also slow (or even stop) the rotation of the bristles by using your forefinger as a brake against the base of the reducing nozzle.

Plantation Shutters & Blinds
Two methods have been found to be very effective. The first utilizes the small brush, with the blinds or shutters fully open. The bristles are inserted between each pair of blades, simultaneously cleaning the top of one blade and the bottom of another. If the blades are closely spaced, use your forefinger to slow (or even stop) the rotation while inserting the bristles. Stopping the rotation is also helpful when cleaning around and between the supporting strings. The second method starts with the blinds or shutters closed, and either brush can be used to clean one side of all of the blades, and then the other.

Extremely Fragile Surfaces
If you are worried about damaging an extremely fragile surface, slow the rotation of the bristles by using your forefinger as a brake against the outer surface of the brush or the reducing nozzle.

Larger Debris
First, remember that the Dust Genie was specifically designed to pick up dust, lint, and other very light debris. The rotation of the bristles has a tendency to scatter larger and/or heavier debris, but momentarily stopping the rotation by using your forefinger as a brake will help. Be aware, however, that larger debris may clog the TurbnX rotor.
Additional TurbnX™ Powered Products Under Development
TurbnX™ technology is flexible, scalable, and can be utilized in almost any system that features a flow of positively or negatively pressurized fluid, whether the fluid is a liquid or a gas. Because TurbnX™ powered devices require neither a separate power source nor any mechanical linkages, they are compact, lightweight, and inexpensive to manufacture, often having but a single moving part. Below are brief overviews of a few of the exciting applications currently under development.

For Pressure Washers- If you’ve ever cleaned a deck or a patio with a pressure washer, you know how easy it is to inadvertently damage the surface. Pressure washers too often blast away the uppermost layer of concrete patios, exposing the rough aggregate beneath, or carve gouges into wood decks. TurbnX™ powered brushes provide the scrubbing power needed to remove algae, mold, mildew and other deposits, while eliminating the need for the direct application of excessive water pressure that causes damage. Some of the devices will feature multiple TurbnX™s mounted on a manifold to make it easy to clean large areas quickly. Others will feature a single TurbnX™, making them ideal for cleaning car wheels, windows, siding, or anything else that benefits from a good scrubbing.

For Steam Cleaners- Steam cleaners have an advantage over other cleaning systems because the steam can kill organisms and sterilize surfaces. Unfortunately, steam cleaners have historically been at a disadvantage because it is difficult to remove heavier deposits without the aid of a powered brush. Because steam cleaners tend to need all of the energy available through an electrical circuit to generate enough steam, it hasn’t been possible to incorporate a rotary brush with enough scrubbing power to have much of an impact. TurbnX™ powered brushes will revolutionize steam cleaning because (unlike motorized brushes) they do not require energy to be diverted from the generation of steam. As in the Dust Genie, the brush is driven solely by the flow of pressurized fluid, in this case steam, that is already produced by the system.

For Bathrooms and Kitchen Sinks- Many of us have sprayers that are mounted on flexible hoses in our kitchens and bathrooms. The sprayers are convenient, but they are seldom very effective when it comes to serious cleaning. TurbnX™ powered brushes for kitchens and bathrooms will enable those sprayers to handle more demanding tasks, like scrubbing egg yolk from a plate or eliminating a nasty bathtub ring. Be sure to register here at DustGenie.com if you would like to receive news and updates regarding these and other exciting, TurbnX™ powered products as they progress through the development pipeline.
