The machine end is 1 1/2 inch in diameter with two locking pins which hold it in the vacuum. The 1 1/2 inch diameter end has two locking pins which hold it in the vacuum. I use the attachments a lot to get cat hair off of the furniture. The end of the original hose cracked to where the extension tube would not stay in place. This replacement tube is made of thicker material is seems and should be stronger. The original
